Ground Rules
Before You Compete
These ground rules apply to all MSLBRA rodeos and are in addition to the official NLBRA Rulebook, which governs all competitive events. All participants, parents, and livestock owners are responsible for reading and following all rules.
Location-specific rules (stall availability, electric fees, check-in times, etc.) are listed below under each venue. When in doubt, contact the rodeo secretary or check our Facebook group for the latest updates.
Important: NLBRA membership is required to compete. Ensure all memberships are current before entering. Visit nlbra.com to join or renew.
General MSLBRA Rules (All Locations)
Membership & Eligibility
- Current NLBRA membership required for all competitors
- Age as of September 1 determines division for the season
- Competitors must be enrolled in grades K–12 or age 4–18
- Parent or guardian must be present for all minors
- Properly completed entry form required before competing
Dress Code
- Western attire required in the arena at all times
- Long-sleeved collared shirts required for all events
- Western hat or helmet must be worn in the arena
- Western boots required — no sneakers or tennis shoes
- Protective vests required for all rough stock events
Safety Requirements
- ASTM/SEI approved helmet required for all rough stock events
- Protective vest required for all rough stock events
- Mouthguard strongly recommended for all rough stock competitors
- No running in the barn or near livestock areas
- Children must be supervised near all livestock at all times
Livestock Rules
- All livestock must have current Coggins test (within 12 months)
- Health certificate required for horses crossing state lines
- No breeding stallions permitted at event venues
- Livestock must be handled responsibly at all times
- All manure must be cleaned from stalls upon departure
- MSLBRA follows all NLBRA animal welfare guidelines
Prohibited
- No illegal substances on venue grounds
- No tobacco use in or near the arena or barn
- No unsportsmanlike conduct — competitors may be disqualified
- No electric prods or abusive livestock handling
- No pets in the arena or barn area
- No unauthorized entry into the arena during competition
Fees & Payments
- Entry fees are due at time of entry — no day-of entries
- Gate admission fees apply at all venues (see venue rules)
- Stall fees due at check-in — cash or approved methods
- No refunds on entry fees after the entry deadline

Rules & Info
- No electric or stalls — tie to your trailer or build pens. Please spread all manure and hay around your trailer area as they drag the grounds after we leave.
- Dogs must be on a leash in your hand or tied at or in your trailer at all times.
- Absolutely NO tying of horses to ANY fences.
- Alcohol — Parents, be responsible.
- Smoking is not permitted near the arena or livestock areas.
- Jackpot Barrels Friday Night & Jackpot Team Roping Saturday Night (see Facebook for flyers).
- Goats are FRESH — they will need to be tied.
- All parents & contestants are asked to volunteer. Please be in dress code in the arena.
- All parents and contestants should be read up on the NLBRA Rule Book.
- Draw will be posted Friday. All changes must be communicated by Friday morning. Fees are due after the draw is posted if something changes on your end.
- Contestants wishing to read the prayer, sing the national anthem, or carry the flag — please reach out at the Saturday morning meeting.
Friday Night Jackpot Barrels
- Barrel racing flyer will be posted on Facebook.
- Exhibitions start at 5:30 PM — racing start no earlier than 7:00 PM.
- Entries open Monday August 24th and will stay open until start time.

Start Times & Schedule
- Friday: Pole Bending & Barrel Racing Exhibitions 5:00–7:00 PM — $5/run, pay at the gate.
- Saturday (Rodeo #3): Rough Stock 9:00 AM • Timed Events not before 11:00 AM.
- Ladora Legends Drill Team will perform after Team Roping, before Flag events — Saturday only.
- Sunday (Rodeo #4): Timed Events immediately following the Rough Stock.
- Cowboy Church: Saturday @ 6:30 PM by the bleachers (if a volunteer is available).
- Saturday night: Good eats at Sutliff Bar & Grill or Whiteys in Lisbon.
Contestant Meetings
- Rough Stock only: Saturday 8:30 AM at the bucking chutes — have all equipment present for a safety check.
- Timed Event contestants: Saturday 10:30 AM.

- Dogs must be on a leash in your hand or tied at or in your trailer at all times.
- Alcohol — Parents, be responsible.

- All parents are asked to volunteer. Please be in dress code in the arena.
- All parents and contestants should be read up on the NLBRA Rule Book.

- Barrel Racing & Pole Bending start at 7:00 PM.
Rules & Info
- Absolutely NO tying of horses to fences. Either tie to your trailer or get a stall.
- Dogs must be on a leash in your hand or tied at or in your trailer at all times.
- Alcohol — Parents, be responsible.
- Smoking is not permitted near the arena or livestock areas.
- No early arrivals — the organizers work too and need time to get there and set up.
- All contestants and/or parents are asked to volunteer. Please be in dress code in the arena.
- All parents and contestants should be read up on the NLBRA Rule Book.
- Cowboy Church: Saturday @ 5:30 PM (if a volunteer is available to lead a service).
- Draw will be posted Friday. All changes must be communicated by Friday morning. Fees are due after the draw is posted if something changes on your end.
